Rocketship Scholars: Going fast won’t win the marathon
Rocketship Scholars Series: Written by Joumana Elomar
We’re nearing the end of the course and words like ‘Segment’ ‘Source’ and ‘Destination’ no longer feel unfamiliar. It’s been fascinating to see how all the nuts and bolts come together.
This week we focused on top of the funnel and ran through a case study. It was interesting to see a live case and how all the principles operated in practice.
On a high level, two things stood out to me:
No implementation is ever created equally
If you don’t track it, you can’t measure it
As every project is different, managing the funnel with best practices and a flexible mind is crucial. I loved the practical tips that Audrey taught us, such as:
Use a blank slate
Use correct naming conventions
Be incremental with change
Plan with the future in mind
There’s a solution for everything
While these things might seem like no-brainers, these lessons come from 20+ years of working closely with teams. And it makes sense! It’s tempting to rush the process or build out a band-aid solution when you’re on a tight deadline. The irony is that planning with the future in mind and implementing change slowly saves time and money in the long run! So if you slow down at the start, it makes it easier to complete the marathon.
I am really enjoying how practical this part of the course is. Next week is analytics so I’m eager for that!
