Rocketship Scholars: It’s all coming together
Rocketship Scholars Series: Written by Jasmine Brunsdon, Product Manager at HowToo
Completing module 6, ‘Product Led Growth’ and module 7, ‘Preparing your Assets’ was a great way to tie together the past couple of weeks and do some necessary knowledge checks to better understand why we were implementing Segment, Customer.io and Amplitude.
The week started with a presentation stack around product-led growth. This was a great addition to the course, as convincing teams and stakeholders to invest in a restructure towards PLG can sometimes be the hardest part of the whole process. The slide deck spoke to the persona of an executive team, with key metrics around revenue, case studies, scale and opportunities for PLG.
Continuing on from that presentation, we then looked at some important first steps.
1.Understanding your persona
This step I think is critical in understanding who it is you’re speaking to, and ensuring that everything you do is built to help this persona. I found the questions really insightful to build an accurate portrayal of key messaging elements. Especially in comparison with general persona’s I’ve seen, which talk about, for example, what hobbies does your persona have, which to me seems irrelevant to the messaging.
2.Preparing copy and images for communication
This is a great step, as one of the core aspects we are going to iterate on, seen also in our funnels, is emails. It clearly outlines the importance of marketing in helping achieve customer onboarding and PLG. The AI copy tool was also a great addition and I had a lot of fun playing around with our messaging, using Copy.ai.
All in all, this week was a nice way to take a break from technical implementation and ensure we clearly understood the crucial points of:
Why PLG?
Who are we messaging and how can we improve this messaging?
What is the purpose and benefit of these new tools?
I think it's a very important lesson, that Segment is not the tool for PLG, it just makes it easier to implement downstream tools, such as Amplitude and Customer.io.
Great pace, and excellent course so far! Thank you, you have made these processes really easy.
