Rocketship Scholars: The right transition for me.
Rocketship Scholars Series: Written by Helena Tran
It's week 1 of this course, and I'm already learning so much. I feel confident that this is the right transition for me. I have been working as a data analytics consultant for over 6 years now, and it's all I've known. It's so interesting to learn about what others do, and learn about the world outside of my own speciality.
Everyone has been very nice and it's such a privilege to be selected amongst a group of bright individuals. There is so much to learn from this group, not just in relation to this course content, but also in terms of learning from other people's experiences.
In terms of the course content, we have now covered Module 1: Common Startup Problems and Module 2: The Customer Journey Optimisation (CJO) toolkit. The CJO funnel was particularly interesting for me. I didn’t realise the multitude of steps involved with a customer’s touchpoint. Perhaps because my career has been focused on organisations as clients, everything taught in this course is a whole new world to me. When Audrey went through the CJO principles of having business rules living outside code and making them available for change by the non-technical members of the business, I really connected with that. As the “developer” myself it does become challenging when I work with non-technical users and the client decides to change the business rules surrounding what I have coded after the fact. I see that this principle also serves to empower and allow non-technical users to take responsibility. I also love that this course allows me to step away from the details (analysing millions of rows of data) and think about other issues in a holistic manner.
The course structure has been great as it is structured so that there are exercise questions in each module and journaling time. It really allows me to reflect on the learnings and the application of such. I look forward to learning more as the course progresses. For now, my only goal is to be like a sponge - absorb as much content as I can, and apply my learnings as regularly as I can.
I never thought there would be a day where I would share my journal and musings, but it's a new experience, and hey, never say never!
Till next time,
